B.C. Airlines Plane at the Tyee Spit
B.C. Airlines began landing planes in Campbell River in 1946, using the beach in front of the Willows Hotel as their base. However, "in foul weather the Seabees were parked on an empty lot in the centre of town…[and] villagers took exception to this eyesore" (River City, p. 156), leading to the construction of a seaplane base at the Tyee Spit.
